Under the slogan “Internal Control is the First Line of Defense in Combating Corruption and Promoting Transparency”, and under the patronage of Prime Minister Eng. Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, the Dean of the Post-graduate Institute for Accounting and Financial Studies, Chartered Accountant Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Mohammed Thajil Al-Maamouri, participated in the Internal Audit and Control Conference held at the headquarters of the Financial Supervision Bureau, Al-Naqshbandi Hall, today, Saturday, February 8, 2025.
The conference witnessed wide participation from government officials, experts and specialists in the field of internal audit and control, who discussed the latest developments and updates in this field, and exchanged views and proposals on how to develop internal audit mechanisms and enhance their effectiveness in combating corruption.
The Prime Minister stressed in his speech that the conference aims to enhance the work of internal control and consolidate transparency in the performance of duty in compliance with the primary goal of the government program, which is to combat corruption, and to place the issue of supporting internal control and developing its work at the forefront of the procedural links within the anti-corruption methodology. We also raised the levels of internal audit to general directorates to ensure full empowerment in their work in combating corruption.
For his part, His Excellency the Chairman of the Federal Financial Supervision Bureau, the Chartered Accountant Dr. Ammar Subhi Khalaf, explained that the Bureau seeks to support all measures aimed at developing the auditing profession in Iraq, based on Article (4/Fifth) of the Federal Financial Supervision Bureau Law No. (31) of 2011 (amended), which specified among the Bureau’s objectives the development of the accounting and auditing professions and accounting systems and raising the level of accounting and auditing performance of the entities subject to supervision. He stressed that the importance of internal supervision comes from the fact that it is the supervisory body responsible for the pre-disbursement audit through which all financial transactions pass. The conference came out with a set of recommendations that would contribute to increasing the support provided to these directorates and raising the level of their performance.
